About a year ago, a friend said to me “Skip, I think you’re a very good photographer… but, I gotta level with ya… your forte’ is NOT black and white and your b/w work does absolutely nothing for me. You should stick with color. That’s what you’re good at.”
This seemed harsh to me, but I appreciated his candor and honest opinion. I thought about it a good while and asked myself why I make images. At first I thought it was so that others would give me approval, but that wasn’t it.
Finally decided that it had more to do with a compulsion to explore color, texture, differences in light and shadow, patterns, etc… essentially all visual facets of reality and make images that resonated from my perspective. Why? I don’t know. But I do know that my goal is not to be deemed worthy by anyone.
So, I continued to make my color images AND my black and white images as well. Here are a few I made recently. For your’s and my pleasure. :-) More HERE
ps. I created a new site for myself that I hope to start using more and more for travel and everyday stuff. If you’re curious it’s @ Kaleidoscope of Color
